Follow The Bouncing Ball

As if life isn't hard enough. Now I have floaters in my right eye. Sunday night I thought there was a gnat buzzing around my beard. Except this fuzzy little creature won't go away. He's always there bouncing around like a little baby spider hanging on a string. Then Monday night when I go to bed I see this silver comet circling about once a second. So I went to see my world famous retina specialist and after the usual exam he told me that my eye is fine and this is from the previous clot being reabsorbed and my retina going through some sort of change of life. The buzzing fuzz ball is from a fragment of old blood floating around in the vitreous. There is nothing I can do about till it resolves itself in a few weeks to possibly a year. So for awhile there is nothing I can do about these new friends I have except get used to them. Because they are free floating my brain can't adjust to them and tune them out. So I am happy that my retina wasn't detatching and I don't have to wear a jaunty eye patch. About 35 years ago I would have welcomed my new friends as I laid around Central Park drinking my Muscatel; but now they are just something I have to accommodate. I found the local Floaters Support Group in Asheville so I hope that will help. We meet every Weds. in the dark alley behind the brewery.

Ever heard of scintillating scotoma? Well that is what I had yesterday... (I also thought I might have a detached retina)...

Anyway, in layman's terms, it is an Ocular Migraine ...without the migraine. No known etiology. I was prolly in the ophthalmolgoist's chair the same time you were:-D.

We in-laws stick together, don't we?

Dottie:
It's spelled "opthalmologist". At least your problem is scintillating, mine is just annoying.

You're messing with a *Spelling Queen* Babba. Now, as Frank would say to our kids: "Look it up!!:-)" Tell me what you find out.

I betcha I'm write (ha!)...oh, I mean, "right".

Babba,

Did you check it out?

Babba: I was introduced to the world of floaters a number of years ago. Yet, again, another aging sign. "thinnning vitreous fluid." Left eye, floating down central vision when I look up. I learned to use the sun visor in the car, and have not noticed them for a while, so my brain must've done that "tune out" thing. At least it'll heal, babba. And that ocular migraine thing, Dot? Dick gets those. About once a year, maybe, he tells me he's having a "light show." We're all just a walking medical encyclopedia. Tell ya what Babba, I'll lead, you clean up the mess! M-

M.:

Thank goodness mine didn't come with the migraine. Does Dick's?

It is a decreased blood flow to the occipital lobe in the brain that controls our vision that causes it according to my ophthalmologist.

As long as there is no decrease in blood flow to the part of my brain that controls the remote. The little floaters are not bad; it's just the big fuzzy black one which causes me to say "waiter there is a fly in my soup".

Dot, he has no headache with them. They last maybe about 20 minutes. Long enough to make him edgy. After his initial one, the dr did a field vision test, also an ultra sound of the carotid artery. Yeah, Dorian, those floaters were a major distraction at first. I am officially in need of bifocals and keep putting it off cuz I'd rather ask someone else to read the fine print than trip over my own shoes. M-

Babba,

You're avoiding me: Did you look up the spelling for ophthalmologist? I'm not letting you go on this one!

M- Mine lasted for 20 min. too. The Ophthalmologist did a thorough check of my retina and etc. and said I was perfect. That the condition is benign -- it may or may not happen again:-D.

Hollar at your sis-in-law, Babba!

Dot: In comment # uno you wrote "opthamolgoist". I thought it might be oopthamalogist but on my bill it was was spelleled with one o. Maybe it's oopthamology and opthamologist. Mabe it's spelled different in the South. Any way the correct speling should be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Okay,

This is quite some arm wrestle.

I would say it is a draw....:-D

Babba:
I've had a little reoccurring floater for years. It was caused by an eye injury when I was little.
A farmer kid was trying out his new sling shot and I was the target. It split my eye so I was seeing two images from the one eye and, naturally, one from the other.
My Ocular Migraines are like looking through a kaleidoscope. In my case I get them with eye strain and sometimes later a full blown Migraine shows up. Oh the joys of life…… .

Jinxed like Joe?
Try Kickapoo Joy Juice
A liquor of such stupefying potency that the hardiest citizens of Dogpatch, after the first burning sip, rose into the air, stiff as frozen codfish. A more agreeable version is now produced by Monarch Beverage of Atlanta, Inc

Lonesome Polecat & Hairless Joe: They make Kickapoo Joy Juice- if it needs more body, they throw one in! Maybe a hit of this stuff will help you see better... if anything you won't be able to think about it.
